Star clusters and galactic chemodynamics: Implosive formation of super star clusters
نویسنده
چکیده
We numerically investigate dynamical and chemical properties of star clusters (open and globular clusters, and “super star clusters”, SSC) formed in interacting/merging galaxies. The investigation is two-fold: (1) large-scale (100pc-100kpc) SPH simulations on density and temperature evolution of gas in interacting/merging galaxies and (2) small-scale ones on the effects of high gas pressure of ISM on the evolution of molecular clouds. We find that the pressure of ISM in merging galaxies can become higher than the internal pressure of GMCs (∼ 10 kB K cm−3), in particular, in the tidal tails or the central regions of mergers. We also find that GMCs can collapse to form super star clusters within an order of 10 yr owing to the strong compression by the high presser ISM in mergers.

Scaling relations in dynamical evolution of star clusters
We have carried out a series of small scale collisional N-body calculations of single-mass star clusters to investigate the dependence of the lifetime of star clusters on their initial parameters. Our models move through an external galaxy potential with a logarithmic density profile and they are limited by a cut-off radius. In order to find scaling relations between the lifetime of star cluste...

Recent observational results on high spatial resolution images of ultraluminous infrared galaxies (ULIGs) have revealed very luminous, young, compact, and heavily obscured super star clusters in their central regions, suggested to be formed by gas-rich major mergers. By using stellar and gaseous numerical simulations of galaxy mergers, we firstly demonstrate that the central regions of ULIGs ar...
متن کامل1 Evolved Super Star Clusters in M82
We present high-resolution optical and near-infrared HST observations of two adjacent regions in the fossil star-burst region in M82, B1 and B2. Age estimates date the cluster population in the fossil star-burst between ∼ 2 × 10 8 and ∼ 10 × 10 9 years, assuming solar metallicity. The star cluster population in B2 is more heavily affected by internal extinction than that in B1. Although our clu...

We investigate the behaviour of a cluster of young massive star clusters (hereafter super-cluster) in the tidal field of a host galaxy with a high-resolution particle-mesh code, Superbox. Specifically we want to establish if and how such super star-clusters merge and carry out a detailed study of the resulting merger-object. This merger-object shows either the properties of a compact spherical ...

Populations of young star clusters show significant differences even among “normal” disk galaxies. In this contribution I discuss how properties of young cluster systems are related to those of their host galaxies, based on a recent study of clusters in a sample of 22 nearby spiral galaxies. Luminous young clusters similar to the “super” star clusters observed in starbursts and mergers exist in...
